Skema Launches Integration with Trimble SketchUp

Skema, our BIM 2.0 software startup, has launched a new integration between our platform and SketchUp, creating a smoother bridge between early-stage architectural design and full BIM production workflows.

AEC Magazine covered the launch in their article today…

Skema to streamline SketchUp to Revit workflow

Traditionally, there has been a disconnect between the freeform, intuitive design environment of SketchUp and the more structured, documentation-focused world of Revit. Skema’s new integration aims to close that gap by enabling a fluid, multi-stage workflow:

  1. Massing in SketchUp – Designers begin by roughing out building forms and massing studies in SketchUp, taking advantage of its accessible and flexible early-concept design environment.
  2. Block-and-Stack Planning in Skema – The design is then brought into Skema for more structured spatial planning, where floor plates, program areas, and building organization can be refined.
  3. Design Exploration back in SketchUp – Designers can return to SketchUp to further develop facades, explore aesthetics, and run analyses such as rendering, energy performance, and lighting studies.
  4. BIM Model Generation in Revit – Finally, Skema’s ‘BIM in Minutes’ feature allows the design to be pushed directly into Revit at the click of a button, arriving as a construction-ready, data-rich BIM model.

This integrated workflow offers significant practical benefits. By maintaining a continuous digital thread from concept through to BIM delivery, it reduces the need for rework, minimizes data loss that typically occurs when transferring between platforms, and removes the need for manual coding or complex data re-entry. The result is a faster, more efficient path from creative design intent to precise, construction-ready documentation — allowing architects to spend less time on technical overhead and more time on design quality.
